ABOUT GOURMAND

“ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WAS ACTING LIKE I WAS A TALK SHOW HOST WITH MY FRIENDS INTERVIEWING ME AS I COOKED! I’M STILL DYING TO FIND THOSE TAPES!”

Meet Gourmand Owner Bo Phillips

Born and raised on a farm in High Point, Bo was practically born cooking. She still can’t believe her parents let her prepare and serve them breakfast in bed when she was just four years old. After graduating from Duke University and exploring other career paths, she decided to explore her long awaited desire to become a food writer.

This led her to New York to study at the French Culinary Institute, also graduating from ALMA’s international school of cuisine, in Parma, Italy. It was there she mastered the Micheline techniques of food criticism. “These days with social media, Yelp and Google reviews, everyone’s a food critic and it has become obsolete,” Phillips says. “I decided to fill a void for those in need of an easy, fast casual, gourmet “convenience” store in this area. Now’s the perfect opportunity to take advantage of how quickly Charlotte is growing.”

When she opened Gourmand, she gave her new business a fun and whimsical ambience in hopes of making it a more unique “bodega,” of sorts. Although she attributes her exposure to N.C. agriculture playing a part, it’s undeniable that she has a flair for interior design. Bo shared what a “gift it was growing up in High Point and how much she appreciates her family’s involvement in the furniture industry.”
